Retained Primitive Reflexes
Primitive reflexes are natural reflexes we are born with. Initially, they are important for early survival skills such as feeding, as well as promoting early development of gross motor such as rolling and crawling. These reflexes should be inhibited at approximately 12 months of age. Retained primitive reflexes may present as:
> fidgeting
> inattentiveness
> lack of coordination
> impulsivity
> heightened sensory world
> delayed academic development
> difficulty with sleep
> poor posture
> hyperactivity
> phobias
> food sensitivities
> poor balance
treatment
Once retained primitive reflexes have been identified, we also look at hemispheric imbalances in the brain (right/left side of the brain overactive or underactive). In line with the Melillio method, these areas are addressed in combination through sensory stimulation, exercises, the use of eyelight glasses and laser therapy, as well as addressing physical alignment with traditional chiropractic care. Each treatment plan is individualised to the child and includes at-home activities to assist with in-clinic care.
